Artist of the Month for April 2019 - Margaret Herd, retired teacher from the Tacoma Schools

Herd has worked in many different mediums but currently enjoys acrylic painting, experimenting with fluid acrylics and concrete sculpture. Materials that are used in her artwork are a combination of glass bead gel, joint compound, acrylics, and Floetrol. The concrete pieces include sand, concrete, and perlite mixture. The artwork in this show reflects a passionate use of color and brushstroke in landscapes and abstract work. It is directly influenced from long travels in Mexico and was inspired by the warmth of the people and the architecture. It brings a warmth that vibrates through the artwork.
